Why do we need Grow Up Safe?
Parents rely on the professionals they trust with their children to give them information that is important. You play an important role in helping parents and caregivers keep their kids healthy and safe.
But, when it comes to talking about safety and injury prevention, many providers say they don’t share information as much as they would like. The biggest barriers providers say prevent them from these conversations are:
the difficulty in finding information;
uncertainty about whether the information they have is current and accurate;
not wanting to be perceived as bossy, judgmental, or paternalistic.
How Grow Up Safe can help.
We provide curated content.
We’ve done the hard work by having our group of child injury prevention experts seek out and curate information and resources for you, ensuring you can trust what you find here. In addition, we collaborate with a national partner to provide additional outreach resources on specific injury topics. These resources are not exhaustive and we are always on the lookout for additional resources we can add.
We make the information easier to share.
The links to all of these resources are in one place – the Resources tab on this website. Being in one place saves you time. The digital links can be easily shared with the families you serve.
We provide "how-to" information on outreach.
It can be uncomfortable to talk to a parent or caregiver about an unsafe practice or difficult situation. But, there is a lot of misinformation out there so it’s important not to assume a parent or caregiver should know better.
You can also find lessons on how to use social media for outreach by going to the Using Social Media tab on this website.
Grow Up Safe received start-up funding from a Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program grant administered and funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The overall goal of the Healthy Tomorrows Program is to fund innovative, community-based projects to improve access to healthcare and promote preventive health services.
